Clearing out a parent's Kansas City home from out of town

The house is in Kansas City and you're somewhere else. You don't have to move back for a month to deal with it. Dustin Williams manages the local vendors, and you make the decisions from wherever you are.

How it works when you're not here

  1. Tell us about the house. The address, what's in it, and your deadline.

  2. Tell us how we get in. A relative, a neighbor, your realtor, or a lockbox all work.

  3. We send photos. You tell us what's staying in the family.

  4. We coordinate vendors for sorting, donation, and hauling, with your family approving what leaves.

  5. You see the result in photos, room by room.

Do you have to travel at all?

Many families don't. Whether you need to depends on who can let us in and how many decisions only you can make. If you do come, come at the end, when the house is nearly empty and the keepsakes are already set aside.

One person, start to finish

Dustin Williams organizes your project and manages the vendors doing the physical work. He's been hauling since 2023 and also owns Grateful Hauling and Delivery.

What it costs

Organization fees are $500 for small projects, $1,500 for medium projects, and $2,500 for large projects. Vendor charges and an additional fee calculated as a percentage of vendor charges are separate. You'll review the scope, percentage fee, and expected total before work begins.

Which city's rules apply?

A mailing address doesn't always tell you which city a house is in, and every city handles big items differently. We've written up the ones we see most.

Can my siblings be part of the decisions?

Yes. Pick one person to give the final word, and we'll send photos to whoever needs to see them.

What if nobody local can let you in?

Tell us. A realtor or a lockbox usually solves it.

When can you work?

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Saturday and Sunday are by appointment.

A practical place to start

Tell us what needs to happen at the house.

You don't need to know which services to ask for. Tell us what's happening and where you need help.
